Kalava

The Kalava or the sacred thread is tied as a part of many Hindu ceremonies and ritual practices. It is believed to thwart evil and protect the individual from negative energy. 

By tying the Kalava, one gets the blessings of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh along with the special grace of Goddess Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati. The thread is used as an offering of cloth to the deity.
